University of Virginia (UVA).
Charlottesville, Virginia State, USA.
SN: 0900125
Before of the visit
We planned visit the customer of the University of Virginia (UVA) to perform some different tasks what I describe in this list:
• CT Hardware reparation
• Installation of High Energy collimator
• Installation of the High-Resolution Collimator
• Installation of the 4 Mouse beds
• Installation of the Heater
The status of the Albira before this visit is:
• SPECT and PET are working at 100%.
• CT hardware is not working properly, the reason was in the X-ray detector hardware.
The technical service that will perform the visit is Rex Hurley and Emilio Gimenez.
Contact details: Stuart Berr PhD, email:
Address of the installation:
• University of Virginia /P.O. Box 801332 / 480 Ray C Hunt Drive
• 157 Snyder Building ; Charlottesville, VA 22903
Planning of the visit
This was the original plan of visit:
Explanation of the reparation about CT
The CT hardware presented a problem detected by the customer in the final of December of 2017, the issue was in the image of visualization, that is completely black and in the final of the acquisition the reconstruction obtained a black image too.
With this situation, it was necessary an onsite visit to check the hardware x Ray detector. For our experience in the past with other Albira we are going to focus of the issue in 2 points: Data hardware cable/power cable and electronic board frame grabber.
Finally, the components that we have substituted in these two visits, it has been these:
• First visit:
o Data cable from flat panel x ray to the frame grabber.
o Electronic Frame grabber.
• Second visit:
o X-Ray Flat panel detector.
o Electronic Frame grabber.
o Power cable for the X-Ray Flat panel detector.
Summarize of the visit per days
We present the summarize of tasks per week, that way we may follow the main points done during our visit.
CT Geometry phantom
CT Reconstruction High Res 40u
PET-CT fusion
SPECT-CT Fusion FVO 80 PH
SPECT-CT Fusion FOV 80 HEC

QC CT
Acquisition done 26th of January CT Best HV HD
QC PET
Acquisition done 26th of January PET 20 min
QC SPECT
Acquisition done 19th of January SPECT 30 min PH FOV 120
Final revision
• After the CT reparation the customer did some acquisitions the 29th of January, what confirm the validation of the CT.
• We install the 4 Mouse bed and heater.
• Installation and calibration of the 2 new collimators HEC and HResC, in both case we calibrated the fusion with CT.
• Test with customer onsite with animals.

Dear Prof Berr,
During the last Friday and Monday we have prepare the
material to continue with the CT reparation.
Checking the tracking number of FEDEX(Tracking: 689849861236), with any delay we will have components on site
Wednesday 24/Jan.
I will be in charge of do this reparation, actually I am in
Mexico and I need to coordinate the tickets plane to know exactly when I will
arrive to UVA.
My plan is visit you Thursday to do the reparations and to
be there Friday, Saturday probably to be sure that everything goes correctly.
As soon as I have my planning ready, I will share with you.
Have a good day!

NOTE FROM SSB - 1/19/2018
After replacing a number of cables, the CT would run for a while and then flake out. It was determined that the flat panel Hamamatsu detector is bad. A new one was ordered and should be here by Wed. 1/24/2018. Rex and Emilio left but will return when the detector is here.

NOTE FROM SSB - 1/16/2018
Rex and Emilio determined that a connector on a cable on the CT detector was not making proper contact as one of the screws that fastens the connector could not be screwed in. The replaced the entire cable and things worked fine.

Dear Stuart,
Excuse me but I do not have good news about the issue
detected with the network and with the CT.
This morning I did a revision in the scanner looking for the
problem with the network connection and after your email testing CT too.
And I discovered that the CT hardware has a problem and it
does not allow carry on a normal acquisition. (See the image in black during
the acquisition) I tried to do some acquisitions with the CT and I cannot do
it, but the PET and SPECT runs normally.
After this point we are going to prepare a set of components
to repair the problem with the CT, and next Tuesday I am going to prepare the
shipment to have the material asap in UVA.
Rex will contact with you to prepare the visit.
Sorry to report this problem and I hope that we can solve
soon.
Best regards,

Hello Stuart,
This morning I was looking the CT images to understand what
it was strange in the acquisition of yesterday.
After review the projections(I attached a video with the
projections), I think that probably we have got an interference connection in
the data cable of the flat panel. We add this point to review during our visit
in January.
The Geometry is not affected during the acquisition and for
this reason the images are ok.
Please, contact with us in case that you have any doubt or
suggestion.

Hi all,
there appears to be streaking in the X-Ray projections. It seems to not be there in the reconstructed images. Do you have an idea what is causing this?
Everything else seems to be working well.
Thanks
Stuart
